Ongoing since April, what has been dubbed by the people and local news media as “a labor of charity and love” campaign, has thus far provided over 6,000 cooked meals that were distributed to the elderly, infirm, homebound, and most in need by the sponsor, Ignazio “Iggy” Terranova (#IggyforSenate) who is a NYS Senate candidate running against incumbent NYS Senator Michael Gianaris in the Tuesday, June 23 Democratic Primary.
“Since our founding in 1922, as AHEPANS, our mission is already focused on civic responsibility and involvement in all types of charitable causes, and now during the coronavirus/Covid-19 pandemic, and as proactive community leaders, it is our calling to continue helping our community no matter if there is any political race or not,” said Terranova.
Also joining Terranova was Michelle Caruso- Cabrera (“MCC”), a congressional candidate for Queens and the Bronx who is challenging Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC). Along with Terranova and Caruso-Cabrera, the local members of the AHEPA Hermes Chapter 186, Ahepa.org of the AHEPA District volunteers delivered lunches and desserts to the NYPD 114th Precinct on May 8, and also Mount Sinai Queens hospital on May 7 in heartfelt appreciation of the NYPD police, and hospital, emergency personnel, staff and for Nurses Week in Astoria.
